Judie Barrett is a florist and floral design instructor with more than 40 years of experience in the industry.
At Hixson’s School of Floral Design in Lakewood, Ohio, Judie learned the trade from internationally renowned designer Bill Hixson. She went on to become a Hixson’s instructor herself, teaching design to professionals and newcomers in the floral field for more than two decades.
From 1989 to 2000, Judie was part of a select group of florists from around the country who traveled to Washington, D.C., to decorate the White House for Christmas and other events throughout the year.
Outside of the responsibilities of her full-time job at a busy flower shop in Sylvania, Ohio, where she has worked for 29 years, Judie has independently coordinated flowers for numerous weddings, parties, and events.
Judie is generous, hardworking, and exceptionally creative and, with the help of social media and her two tech-savvy adult children, has found a new way to share what she loves with others. Through an ongoing series of videos on YouTube and Instagram, she is teaching and demonstrating the basics of at-home (and, in her case, home-grown) floral design to a growing audience of gardeners, flower enthusiasts, DIY-ers, and people who simply find comfort and relaxation in watching others make something beautiful with little more than their hands, some stems, and a delightful vessel to arrange them in.
In her spare time, she can be found at home, maintaining and enjoying her house and expansive gardens on five beautiful acres of southeast Michigan countryside.
